My Favorites and Recommendations
The Stranger, by Albert Camus.
One of my absolute favorite books of all time. Is relevant to existentialism, if you are interested. I highly recommend this book.
The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini
A very touching and heartfelt story, and not a hard read either. I will guarantee that you’ll be addicted, so you could probably finish this within a couple of days, if not in one!
The Critical Race Theory, by Richard Delgado
A very interesting book about the Critical Race Theory, which says that racism is deeply entrenched in all aspects of our society/lives, and why.
Don’t Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values and Frame the Debate–The Essential Guide for Progressives, by George Lakoff
Written by a professor at my university (although I have yet to take one of his classes!), he teaches linguistics and in this book shows how linguistics and framing an argument can have a major effect in politics and even in our normal lives. A short read. I recommend it even if you’re not a progressive, because it will show you a different viewpoint!
Killing Yourself to Live, by Chuck Klosterman
If you’re into rock ‘n’ roll and all its famous figures, this would be perfect. It’s “85% of a true story” about the author traveling across the US to the sites where the famous rockers died. He chronicles his experiences; this book is basically a whole book of him rambling about many different (and random!) subjects. I didn’t really know half the rockers he was talking about, but I still enjoyed it!
