It is such a nasty story, and it’s definitely one that needs to be brought more into the spotlight. I do hope that, as you said, someone with a large enough social media footprint will pick this story up as well.
I don’t think it’s so much as people don’t care as that they just don’t know about what’s going on…

Thanks for dragging this story back into the light Roz. The more you study this story the nastier it gets. I sincerely hope someone with a broad enough social media footprint picks this story up and display it to the world. We have access to technology that can clean up this mess. We just need someone to take responsibility for funding the clean-up.

Thanks for highlighting this great organization and the work they’re doing. It’s important and these are the types of cases that need to be brought to the public’s eye more often.

And I agree with Hannah. After hearing such horrible stories of greed and exploitation, it’s difficult for us to know what to do about it. Becoming more aware is the first step, though.

Ah, a classic example of “the white man’s burden” and the conquests of corporate greed. Still, it doesn’t make it any less frightening and angering. Have you ever read “The Secret History of the American Empire” by John Perkins? It’s horribly disturbing, with scenarios like the one you mentioned above and worse. You might enjoy it.

So what are we supposed to do about this? The worst part about knowing about exploitation is that you can’t do anything about it. At least, not alone.
